A more familiar style in Scotland, shrimp flies are hugely successful and come in unlimited shapes , sizes and colours. They can be tied on tubes and doubles and typically consist of a tail, a wing and a head hackles
There are many inspirational tyers out there but I try to put my own stamp on them. I don't use crystal flash in my flies, it doesn't swim as well as angel hair which looks more life like in the water, particularly on a shrimp. There are many styles of shrimp so you're only limited by your own imagination. Classic colours are orange, yellow, black and blue for Scotland
Many of my shrimps are "pot belly" style. the long boar bristles kick and flick in the current and can provoke an aggressive reaction. I like to experiment with colour, pink and purple can be very good as well as the usual colours.
